University of Hawaii at Hilo – best game in town

Sports is a big thing in Hilo from AYSO soccer to high school athletics.  But there is only game in town when it comes to inter-collegiate sports.  The University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans are the pride and joy of Hilo.  With a long history, it has produced national championships and All Americans.  The Vulcan Hall of Fame is a whos who in Big Island sports lore.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo offers sports for women in basetball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.  For the men’s, baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer and tennis. 

Volleyball and basketball games which used to be held at the Civic auditorium have now been moved on campus to instill a true home court advantage for the home team.  Also in doing so, it is hoped that this would attract more students to attend games.

Just this year, the Vulcan Athletic Club was started again after a hiatus.  The Vulcan Athletic Club is geared to be an integral part of the growing excitment and support being generated by the community.  Each month, the VAC holds a monthly luncheon at the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort’s Poly Room providing an opportunity for VAC members to hear updates from the administration as well as guest speakers which have included coaches and student athletes.

The Unversity of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans are truly a gem for Hilo and we could not be any prouder.
